If you need to travel urgently and your passport has been lost or stolen you will need to apply for a Emergency Travel Document.

To apply for an Emergency Travel Document contact your nearest British embassy, high commission or consulate to book an appointment to submit application.

Supporting documents needed when you are applying for an Emergency Travel Document


Recent passport photograph


Completed emergency travel document application form


Proof of your travel plans - eg, booking confirmations (or detailed written travel plans if you can’t book ahead)


A police report if your passport has been stolen


You will have to pay a fee in local currency, equivalent to £95.


Applicant’s original birth certificate


Parent’s full UK birth certificates/ certificate(s) of naturalisation


Parent’s marriage certificate


If applicant is under 16 both parent’s passports and


letters of consent to travel


Applicant’s registration certificate(s) (if applicable

Date of loss/theft (e.g. airport name, town)

Circumstances of loss/theft
